A friend of mine that I hadn’t seen in a few years told me today that she hated Mondays, because Mondays caused her to be depressed. She indicated that her husband left her 5 years ago on a Monday. She said that she finds herself going into deep depression as Monday rolls around each week. I explained to her that it wasn’t the Mondays that was bringing her down, it was the thoughts she chose to entertain that was bringing her down.
It takes effort on your part to focus on those past experiences which have caused you emotional pain. The past no longer exists, and therefore can no longer hurt you unless you choose to allow it to. Emotional pain from your past don’t just automatically disappear, you must make a conscious decision to let go, and focus on the present. Holding on to pain from your past deprives you of your joy today. Holding on to anything for an extended period of time will cause you pain, even if it’s a glass of water. It’s ok for the first few minutes, but the longer you hold the glass, the more pain you begin to experience. Holding on to the pain from our past is no different.
Letting go isn’t about having the courage to release the past; it’s about having the wisdom to embrace the present. You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one. Some people will spend so much time focusing on the closed doors in their life that they cannot see the new doors that has opened in front of them.
Pain in our life is inevitable, but misery is optional. Refuse to continue to relive the pain from your past, move on. Peace in our life is a choice, if you seek it, you will most certainly find it. Love yourself enough to let go of the people whose company is toxic to your peace of mind. Choose to spend your time with individuals who uplift you and feed your soul, you’ll know who they are because you always feel really good after being around them. Listen to your inner voice, not the random opinion of others. Life goes by quickly, so choose happiness, stop complaining, lose the drama, find peace, and enjoy the good life that you deserve. Remember that the greatest part of your happiness will depend on your disposition and perspective, not your circumstances.
Choose not to start your day with the broken pieces of yesterday. Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be. It’s up to you to create beautiful memories for tomorrow. Move confidently in the directions of your dreams, and live the life you imagined……it’s a choice.
