Are you content with where you are in your life at the moment?
Many humanistic psychologist believe that choices are key factors in the many possible outcomes of our lives. Cognitive psychologist Dr. Aaron Beck believes that the opinion that we have our ourselves is of the most extreme importance, because we tend to engage in those activities and experiences in our lives which seem to validate the opinion that we have of ourselves.
Beck believes that when we have a negative opinion of ourselves, the negative opinion will be reflected in the company that we keep, our attitude and demeanor, as well as the personal experiences that we have throughout our lives. In most cases, negative things don’t just randomly happen to us….we choose to make those things happen. It’s all about our personal choices. Each one of us can trace all the choices in our lives which have brought us to where we are today….whether happy, sad, in a satisfying career, or in a 6 by 8 jail cell.
Some choose to constantly live in the past, and they allow that past to have a major role in their present…often for the worse. These individuals can then conveniently blame yesterday for the drama and problems they are experiencing today. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift, which is why we call it the present.
Our world as we have created it is a process of our choices and our thinking. Our choice is the most powerful tool we have. We exist in an infinite field of possibilities. Every choice that we make shuts an infinite number of doors and opens an infinite number of doors. At any point we can change the direction of our lives by a simple choice. It cannot be positively changed without changing our thinking and making good choices. You must choose to be the change you wish to see. Remember that when you choose to change the way you look at things, the things that you look at will change. Choose to have a strong mind that consistently makes good choices. Keep in mind that strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, and weak minds gossip and discuss other people. Choose not to be the weak minded individual who consistently complains, gossips, and points out the faults in others. You are much better than that.
Tomorrow is another day. A new day to make more choices that will affect the rest of your life. Choose wisely.
